Super Potato (スーパーポテト) is one of the best retro game shops in all of Japan. It’s a paradise for those who consider themselves old school gamers, collectors or nostalgics of the 8-16 bit era. If that’s your case, Super Potato needs to be on your list of must-visit places in Tokyo. Lost in Akihabara’s labyrinth of tech shops, maids cafes and otaku shops, you can find Super Potato in Kitabayashi Building: third, fourth and fifth floors of a black painted building with big decals of Pac-man and Mario.
The third and fourth floors are dedicated to the second-hand video games and consoles. Everything from NES to Playstation 2, including lots of rare merchandise including toys, books, video game soundtracks, gifts and so on.
The fifth floor contains a very specific collection of vintage video game arcades and a few slot machines. Not a very big one compared to other more focused Arcade places but it’s a nice stop after your visit. It’s a good place to relax, maybe drink something and spend some coins on a few wonderful old games. It doesn’t matter if you’re searching for some merchandise or video games or if you only want to make a small trip to the 80’s and 90’s, Super Potato is a nice place to visit for any video game fanatic.
